Tire Codes for Rear Tractor Tires
The tire industry is full of codes, terms and acronyms that indicate everything from how fast the tire is rated to go to how much weight the tire can carry. The world of rear tractor tires is no exception. Many people mistakenly think that the code R-1 or R1 means radial, R-1 actual stands for regular tread and is used for the drive tread during general farming tasks. Below is a break down of several different codes used on rear tractor tires.
R-1 Regular Tread, used on the drive wheels for general farming
R-1W Wet traction tread, used on drive wheels in wet or moist soil
R-2 Deep Tread, sometimes called rice and cane tires, used in very wet muddy conditions, rice farming and sugar cane
R-3 Shallow Tread, used on the drive wheels in sandy soils, orchards, highway mowing, etc.
R-4 Industrial tractor tread, used for light industrial service
HF-1 Shallow Tread high flotation tire used for turf and golf course applications
HF-2 Regular Tread high flotation tire used for regular farming
HF-3 Deep Tread high flotation tire used in wet or moist soil
HF-4 Extra deep tread flotation tire used in wet mucky soil conditions.
