How to Choose the Right Golf Cart Tires
These days, golf carts are popular for far more applications than just traditional golfing. Golf carts can be useful for transporting cargo, people, or almost any task that requires getting from Point A to Point B quickly. Because golf carts are used in a variety of environments, tires are available that are suited to particular applications. If you are purchasing a golf cart, the tires it comes with might not be the best suited to your purposes. One of the main factors to consider after you have figured out what size wheels you have is the type of tread you want. There are three main types of tire treads for golf cart tires: turf, or street tires, knobby or off-road tires, and all-terrain tires.
Turf Tires
Turf tires are the traditional type of tire used in golfing. The main purpose of these tires is to provide a smooth ride for golfing without tearing up the grass. If you are mainly using your golf cart for actual golfing, or riding on smooth pavement, these tires will be the best solution.
Knobby Tires
Knobby tires, as the name implies, have deep treads to provide maximum grip for off-road applications. They will grip much better than standard turf tires if you need to drive through sand or mud. However, if you do ride on pavement with them, the ride can be bumpier than normal.
All-terrain Tires
Can’t decide what type of tire you want? Perhaps an all-terrain tire is the best suited for you. All-terrain tires give you more grip than turf tires, but will be less bumpy on pavement than knobby tires. They provide an ideal compromise for those looking to use their golf cart in a variety of situations.
While most golf carts will come with standard turf tires, many people prefer to upgrade to a more rugged tire if they are using the cart off the golf course. This upgrade can provide both safety and comfort when riding your golf cart.
