Value and Performance Come Together in Nordman 5 Tire
An entry-level winter tire that offers high performance at a lower price, the Nokian Nordman 5 was designed to withstand even the harshest northern driving conditions. With sizing available for more than 30 passenger cars and more than 25 SUVs, the Nordman 5 is a versatile tire that can see you safely through the entire winter season, come rain, sleet or snow.
Features that make the Nordman 5 – which received a “good” rating from Canada’s Automobile Protection Association in 2014 – stand out as a solid winter tire include:
Innovative Tread Pattern
The Nordman 5’s directional tread pattern, available on models for both passenger cars and SUVs, pushes out snow, slush and water enhancing the tire’s grip while driving in winter conditions. Polished main grooves further facilitate the flow of snow, slush and water from beneath the tire, increasing tire-to-road contact.
Tenacious Grip
Dubbed “bear claw technology,” sharp-edged protrusions at the front edge of the tread blocks support metal tire studs. The claws hold studs in the proper position and prevent twisting, thereby increasing grip during driving and braking.
Easier on the Road
Most studded tires can damage road surfaces. However, the Nordman 5 features air cushions beneath each stud, resulting in a lighter ride and less road damage. Studs can be installed by the factory or after market.
Safety Indicator
Rather than resorting to the old trick of measuring remaining tread with a penny, motorists can check the condition of their Nordman 5 tires with the driving safety indicator. Numbers stamped on the center rib of the tire’s tread help determine the remaining groove depth.
Winter driving conditions can present challenges to even the most experienced drivers. A good winter tire can improve performance and safety, whether you encounter heavy rain or un-cleared roads. If you are looking for a winter tire that won’t break the bank, be sure to add the Nordman 5 to your short list of options.
