Proper Storage of Tires

When storing tires is important to store them properly. Proper storage of tires will make them last longer and help reduce tire failure.

  1. Temperature - Tires should be stored in a cool dark environment. Optimally tires will should be stored at temperatures between 77 degrees Fahrenheit and 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Humidity - Keep humidity at levels that avoid having condensation from on the Avoid having tires sitting in water
  3. Light - UV light is a natural enemy of tires. 
  4. Air/Ozone - Ozone breaks down tires and make them deteriorate. Avoid storing tires in areas with ozone producing equipment like high voltage electrical equipment, electric motors of florescent lights. 
  5. Stacking - Avoid storing tires at odd angles or compressed. Store the tires in their form without any weight sitting on them.
  6. Chemicals - It is important to protect your tires from oils, solvents and grease. Long term exposure to chemicals can cause a tire to break down and prematurely fail.
The proper storage and handling of your tires will lead to longer tire life and safer operation.  Make sure to properly store your tires when they are not mounted on your vehicle.
