When should I replace my RV Tires?

While most tires wear out before they reach the 10 year mark, if your tire has not worn out within 10 years of its manufacture date it is recommended that the tire still be replaced, this includes your spare tire. Always check your local, state, federal laws governing tire life and the manufacturers guidelines and adhere to whichever standard is more strict. Tires that have been in use for more then 5 years, should be inspected on an annual basis by a qualified technician. RV Tire Safety should never be taken lightly.

Why is tire pressure important for my RV Tires?

The single most important thing you can do the maintain the life of your tires is to keep them properly inflated at all times. Improper air pressure is extremely dangerous and can cause early wear, tire damage, poor ride and potentially loss of control. Properly inflated RV tires will get better fuel economy, last longer and provide a better ride. When a tire is under-inflated it builds up more heat and that can cause poor handling and even tire failure. An under-inflated tire can issue early or irregular tire wear and reduced fuel economy. A overinflated tire will have reduced contact with the road, which will lower traction, handling and braking. An overinflated tire will ride harder can be more prone to impact damage.

How much air should I put in my RV Tires?

Your RV tire pressure is dependent on the fully loaded weight of your recreational vehicle. In order to properly set your air pressure, you must know your RVs actual weight. Once you know the weight of your RV, you can use a load and inflation table to determine the proper air pressure.

How often should I check my RV Tires air pressure?

You should check your tire pressure at least once a month and before taking any trips. When on a long trip, check the air pressure every morning before your start driving for the day. Any time the RV has been in storage and if you are going on a short trip before you leave and or before you return. You should always check the tires when they are cold, a warm tire can read 10-15 psi higher then it actually is. Never let air out of a tire that is hot. Using a good quality truck or RV air gauge will make checking your air pressure easier and more accurate.
